Seller Rules - Bookaao

Seller Rules

Applicable from: 14 July 2026

This page is the complete, current statement of Bookaao's rules for sellers — commission, pricing, delivery charges, RTO, and returns — written out in full, the same way a marketplace like Amazon or Flipkart discloses seller charges. Nothing about fees, RTO, or returns applies outside of what's written here, and any charge outside your listed weight and standard last-mile delivery is always shown to you, not deducted silently.

Contents

1. Commission & Payout

Bookaao charges a flat 15% platform commission on the listed price once a book is sold. The remaining 85% is payable to you as the seller.

Example — book listed at ₹1,000
Line itemAmount
Listed price₹1,000
Bookaao commission (15%)− ₹150
Net payout to seller₹850

Delivery is paid by the buyer on top of the listed price, and is not deducted from your payout.

2. Listing a Book

Any seller can list a book for sale on Bookaao. You set the sale price and enter the book's weight at the time of listing.

Weight accuracy

The weight you enter at listing is treated as the final weight of the book for the entire order. Shipment and delivery charges are calculated directly from this number, so it should reflect the actual packed weight as closely as possible.

3. Delivery Charges

How the charge is calculated

  1. The weight you declare at listing is used as the shipment weight.
  2. That weight is run through Bookaao's freight calculator to arrive at the delivery charge shown to the buyer.
Freight calculator

The live delivery-charge calculator is available at bookaao.com/freight_calculator. Check exact charges for any weight and destination there before you list.

India Post home pickup charge

If a parcel is shipped through India Post, an additional ₹50 home pickup charge applies to that shipment.

Proof provided

Proof of this charge is available on request, the same as any other charge on your order — nothing is added without a record you can check.

4. RTO & Returns Policy

Bookaao's RTO (return-to-origin) check and address-verification system is designed to make returns very unlikely. In practice, roughly 1 in every 1,000 deliveries is returned, whether due to RTO or another delivery issue.

Step 1 — The book is returned to you

When a shipment comes back as RTO, the book is returned directly to you, the seller. You are notified along with the courier's proof of return.

Step 2 — You pay the RTO charge

You are required to pay the RTO charge within the time period notified to you at the time of return. This charge covers the actual return shipping cost incurred on that order.

Step 3 — If the RTO charge is not paid in time

  1. Ownership transfers to Bookaao — if the RTO charge is not paid within the given period, the book is transferred to Bookaao instead of being held with you.
  2. Bookaao relists it at an increased price — the listed price is increased by the RTO charge amount, so the extra cost is recovered from the resale rather than charged to you upfront.
  3. You're settled once it resells — when the book sells again, your net payout is the sale amount minus the RTO/return charge. No commission is cut by Bookaao on this resale.
If it doesn't resell

The book is held with Bookaao until it sells; your eventual payout is not forfeited.

Proof provided to you

100% transparent

For every return, Bookaao shares the shipment company's proof of return along with all other supporting documentation, so you can independently verify why the parcel came back and how the RTO charge was calculated.

5. Transparency Commitment

Bookaao runs this marketplace the way you'd expect from Amazon or Flipkart: every charge on your order is disclosed, and nothing is deducted from your payout that isn't explained on this page.

6. Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I check delivery charges before listing a book?

Use the freight calculator at bookaao.com/freight_calculator. Enter the book's weight and destination to see the exact charge the buyer will pay.

Does the 15% commission apply before or after delivery charges?

Commission applies only to the listed book price, not to the delivery charge. Delivery is paid separately by the buyer, on top of the listed price.

What if I enter the wrong weight when listing?

The weight you declare at listing is what drives the shipment and delivery charge for the whole order, so it should match the actual packed weight to avoid mismatches at pickup.

Is there still a delivery-zone discount for buyers?

No. The zone-based (D1/D2/C1/C2) discount has been removed as of 14 July 2026. Delivery charges are now based purely on the book's declared weight, via the freight calculator.

How rare are returns really?

Bookaao's RTO and address-verification checks bring returns down to roughly 1 in 1,000 deliveries.

What happens when my book comes back as RTO?

The book is returned directly to you, along with the courier's proof of return. You then need to pay the RTO charge within the time period notified to you.

What if I don't pay the RTO charge in time?

The book is transferred to Bookaao instead of staying with you. Bookaao relists it at a price increased by the RTO charge amount, and no commission is cut on that resale.

How much do I get once the relisted book sells?

The sale amount minus the RTO/return charge, settled to you in full — Bookaao does not take its usual 15% commission on this particular resale.

What proof do I get for a return or RTO charge?

Bookaao shares the courier's proof of return and all related documentation, so you can independently verify why the parcel came back and how any charge was calculated.

What happens to my money if the relisted book never sells?

It stays on hold with Bookaao until the book sells; it is not forfeited.

Can Bookaao deduct charges beyond weight and last-mile delivery without telling me?

No. Every charge that can appear on an order is listed on this page — commission, weight-based delivery, the India Post pickup charge where applicable, and RTO charges in a return scenario. Anything outside that is disclosed to you with proof, never deducted silently.
